Regularly clean your trailer, especially after exposure to saltwater or corrosive substances. Apply a protective coating like rust-resistant paint or wax to the metal. If galvanised metal is exposed to saltwater, such as in marine environments, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt residue. Salt can accelerate corrosion if left unchecked. Keep galvanized metal away from contact with corrosive materials, such as acids and harsh chemicals. These can accelerate the corrosion process and compromise the protective layer. If you notice any rust spots, address them promptly. Use a wire brush to remove the rust, and then apply a zinc-rich primer or galvanized metal paint to protect the area. If possible keep the trailer stored in a dry place when not in use.

Its recommended every 6000miles or every 12 months but If your trailer covers significant distances regularly ie used commercially, it may experience more wear and tear on components like tyres, bearings, and brakes. Regular inspections become crucial to catch potential issues early. If the trailer is frequently exposed to harsh environmental conditions, such as saltwater (marine environments) or corrosive substances, more frequent maintenance may be necessary to prevent corrosion and other issues. Always refer to the trailer manufacturer’s guidelines for recommended service intervals and specific maintenance tasks. If you’re uncertain call us we have 1 to 12 month maintenance packages available.

Our trailer service will include, inspecting lights and wiring, and checking the overall electrical structural integrity. Removal of hubs inspecting wheel bearings, clean re-greasing. Inspecting, cleaning and adjusting brakes. Examining the suspension system for wear and any stress cracks. Checking chassis for signs of wear or stress.

Trailer snaking can be caused by strong cross winds or by uneven weight distribution, improper loading, issues with the suspension or tyres.  Always ensure your trailer is properly loaded, with heavier items low and towards the front. Check your load on regular intervals especially on long journeys. Make sure your trailer is well maintained and consider fitting an anti snake devise.

Signs of trailer brake issues include uneven braking, squeaking or grinding noises or if the trailer pulls to one side when braking. Handbrake doesn’t hold when parking. Regular trailer maintenance during servicing will catch potential brake problems early.
